"Weeds in Waterways" field day - Bungendore

If you have a specific problem area or you are not sure where to start when it comes to managing weeds in riparian environments then this is the perfect opportunity to learn more!
This is an introductory field day, aiming to give landholders information about the impact of invasive plants in waterways and the tools to help them plan for integrated land management in riparian environments. There will be plenty of examples of restoration projects and a site visit to look at what practical measures you can take to manage weeds in and around waterways and dams.
The topics will include:
- Assessing what you have and what weeds can be a problem
- Willows – are some species ok? How to identify the different types of willows. How to select and remove without erosion/damaging soil structure
- How to manage weeds from upstream
- Blackberry/gorse/broom/woody weeds
- Safe herbicide use and waterways – protecting frogs/fish
- Permission/DA from Council requirements for major works
- How and where to plant vegetation around waterways
Our presenters have years of experience managing riparian restoration projects and can guide you in how to manage woody weeds and riparian environments at your place. The topics discussed will be guided by the group and you can indicate your most pressing questions on the registration form or contact Alex with your topics.
Presenters
- John Franklin, Franklin Consulting. John has over 30 years’ experience working in Natural Resource Management across organisations in NSW and Queensland. This includes extensive experience managing major land degradation issues in the Murrumbidgee and Shoalhaven Catchments. John managed the delivery of the Yass River Restoration project which delivered improved riparian ecological outcomes by removing willows and other weeds species and replacing these with native trees and shrubs
- Rebecca Bradley, Senior Natural Resource Management Advisor - South East Local Land Services. Based in Braidwood Rebecca manages natural resource projects in our area including the Saving Our Scarlet Robin Project, she works tirelessly to secure funding for natural resource management projects that benifit local land holders. She has a particular interest in managing woody weeds in riparian environments
- Lori Gould, is the principal of environental consulting group Grass Roots Environmental, specialising in natural resource management, particularly riparian rehabilitation and community engagement. She is the Program Manager at Jerrabomberra Wetlands engaging the broader community to experience all the Wetlands has to offer. Lori was a Senior Project Manager with Greening Australia for 16 years with, specialising in riparian and catchment management programs to improve water quality and biodiversity in rural Australia. Lori is also a Fellow of the Peter Cullen Trust.
Cost
This cost of this field day is being subsidised by funding from the Australian Government so the cost to attendees is just $27.46 (including Eventbrite booking fee). Lunch and morning tea will be provided.
This event is not suitable for children and please leave your dogs at home.
