Riverina Regional Pest Animal Management Plan launched

Each of the 11 Local Land Services regions coordinated the development of regional pest animal committees and regional strategic pest animal management plans.

 

The plans identify priority pest animals and appropriate management tools, based on a robust risk assessment to inform the level of risk posed. They have been developed in consultation with stakeholders and the community to ensure strong and responsive management activities that are fit for purpose in each community.

 

These pest plans will guide resourcing and investment decisions for government, industry and individual landholders that can be dedicated to coordinated pest animal management.

 

The impact of pest animals on primary production, communities and our natural environment can be severe, creating biosecurity risks through spreading weeds and disease, preying on native animals and livestock, land erosion and waterway degradation.

 

The development of regional pest animal committees means locals are making decisions on what is important, local plans will be in place and local people will be delivering solutions.
