2. The Natural Resources of the Upper Murrumbidgee
The upper catchment covers the area from Tantangara Dam to Burrinjuck Dam, and includes the headwaters of the Murrumbidgee River and the Lake George drainage basin. The Great Dividing Range provides its southern and eastern boundaries, the Mundoonen Range its northern boundary, and the Fiery Range its western boundary. The upper catchment totals 14,060 square kilometres in size.
Much of the following has been adapted from section 6.0 of the Murrumbidgee Catchment Action Plan (1998). According to the Murrumbidgee Catchment Management Authority (CMA), the CAP is designed to “provide strategic direction for investment in natural resource management for the Murrumbidgee catchment”. This section expands on the information provided in the earlier document. Where newer sources are used, these are indicated.
